In the box
The watch is nicely packed in a hard cardboard box, and comes with a charging dock, cable and user manual.
Design
The design is clean and uncomplicated. It’s a square design with rounded edges, and a button on the side instead of a crown.
It can remind a bit of a Pebble.
It’s got a 2.5D screen, battery should last you weeks with everything turned on. Bands are made of rubber and are comfortable enough. They are also very easy to replace, if you want a different style or colour.
The case is made of polycarbonate and the glass in front of the screen is Gorillaglass 3. The total weight including the bands are only 32 grams! It honestly feels so light, at first I thought it didn’t have the battery inside.
Display
The Amazfit Bips screen is a 1.28-inch 176×176 always-on colour-screen.
It’s transreflective wich means it reflects the light from the surroundings. Remember the screen on old handheld games, when they didn’t have backlight?
When there’s a lot of light the screen looks gorgeous and is very easy to read. In dimmer light, it’s a bit tougher. If it’s dark, you’ll have to use the backlight. It can be activated by tapping the button on the side. Or it can be set to “auto”, so it will come on when you raise your wrist.
The always-on display is also very convenient, as there’s no need to raise the wrist or do any weird movements to activate it. Just a little warning; After getting used to the always-on display it’s a bit strange to use watches that doesn’t have it…
Performance and fitness
The main screen will show you different information, based on the watch face you have selected. It can be a clean face with time and pulse only, or something very detailed and complicated. It’s up to you.

Notifications work very well on the Amazfit Bip. When there’s an incoming call or message, it will vibrate and on the screen you can read the full message or see who’s calling. You can also reject phone calls by clicking on the screen.
Weather – is also found on the watch, and it will show you the forecast for the next couple of days.
Tracking – The Bip can track your steps, pulse, distance and calories all day (and night), but if you want more precise tracking while doing different types of sports you have start an activity in the menu.
There are many different activities to choose from. Like running, treadmill, walking and cycling. Whenever these activities are selected the watch will use its build in GPS to track your movement.
Compass – There’s also a build in compass if you need to navigate or just find your way back home.
Alarms – Alarm details can be set from the phone, but can be switched on and off on the watch itself. There’s no sound when the alarm goes off, but the vibration motor is quite powerful so I never missed an alarm.
Sleep tracking – will show you the quality of your sleep. It shows how deep you’re sleeping, and at what time. How many times you woke up during the night will also be in the app.
Battery life compared to normal smartwatches, and other fitness watches is class leading. It only has a small 190 mAh battery, but it will last you 30 days normal use, or 45 days with minimal functions in use. If you use the GPS a lot, the battery will of course drain faster.
The app – is called Mi Fit and is very well made. It nicely presents all the information in graphs, and the menus are easy to navigate.
