Divoom Ditoo Speaker
This is the coolest bluetooth speaker I have ever seen! It’s got a 256 pixel display for pixel art, games and more, it’s got bluetooth 5, and all the functions on it can be controlled from the phone! There’s even a game controller for the games.

What we get in the box
It came in a normal cardboard box for shipping and was wrapped in bubble wrap, but there’s no product specific box included. However, we did get a gift bag, which is nice if it’s bought as a gift.
Also included are some accessories. Here’s some pixel art stickers for decorating the speaker, a user manual in different languages, a quality certificate and a USB type C cable for charging the speaker.

Carry Case and accessories
Usually portable speakers come without any form of carry case or sometimes with some type of pouch. The Divoom Ditoo comes with a solid and nice looking plastic carry case with a transparent door on the front, so we can enjoy the look of the speaker from the outside.

Behind the white plastic inside the case, you’ll find all the accessories.

The Ditoo Speaker
The speaker is designed as a small retro PC, and it sure looks very interesting. It is a plastic design, but it feels sturdy and well built.

It’s not a very big speaker, but at over 500 grams it’s got a good weight to it.
On the front we have the screen and a small keyboard for navigating through the menus. The right side holds the power button, the usb connector for charging and a memory card slot for music. Around the back we find the venting port for batter bass reflex, it’s a so-called dual passive design. The speaker itself is located on top, behind a nice looking mesh.

The display is a 256 pixel colour display, and it’s quite bright and the colours are vibrant.

Holding the button on the side turns on the power, and they first thing you’ll get, is a startup animation and a cool sound effect.
Divoom Ditoo Keyboard
This is actually a mechanical keyboard, so the keys are quite satisfying to press and they have a pretty loud sound. They’re also backlit, so it’s easy to see them in the dark. On the right side we have something that looks like a joystick, but it really only functions as a button, and it can only be pulled in one direction.

The yellow button in the corner will open the menu, and holding it will switch on or off the keyboards backlight. The plus and minus is to adjust values or move up and down. Left and right are for navigation, and holding them will adjust the brightness of the screen. The one with a light on it is for cycling through animation categories, and holding the button down, will change the animation in the current category.
There’s no physical battery indicator on the speaker, but by pressing the power button once, it will pop up on the screen.
Functions on the Divoom Ditoo
The first options we get in the menu are some categories. We have games, pixel-painting, some tools, the alarm clock, and music source.

Playing Games
In games we have a few to choose from, like different tetris games, magic 8 ball, Dice and even the old snake game we had on old Nokia phones. The golden stick on the side works as a select-button, and the arrow keys are for controlling whatever is on the screen. They mostly work fine, but I did experience some missed clicks, especially when very carefully pressing the buttons.

If you don’t like using the buttons, it is possible to control the games by using on-screen controls on the phone.

Other functions
Other functions you’ll find on the Divoom Ditoo are paint games, scoreboard, stop watch, noise meter, countdown timer, alarm clock, sound source for music, record voice memo, answer calls – yes, it’s got a microphone.

Showing notifications
It can also show simple notifications from different apps. The incoming call notification sadly doesn’t show who is calling. There’s probably not enough space for it, but it would be nice to see a name scrolling across the screen.

I recommend watching the video to see the functions in action – https://youtu.be/x0vD9XvnJaU
The Divoom app
Almost every function on Divoom Ditoo speaker, can be controlled from the app, called Divoom. So if you don’t like using the keys and menu on the speaker, everything can be done without even touching it.

The app also makes it possible for us to make our own pixel art, animations and even do some sound editing to make music. It’s also much easier to set up alarms and calendar events in here.

Play games from the phone!
If you want to play games, but don’t like using the keyboard on the speaker, why not just use the phone as a controller! It works quite well and is easy to use. On top we can choose between the available games, and it’s much faster to navigate between them from the phone.

Record voice memo
There’s also a voice memo function, which allows us to record a message and play it back on the speaker. Just hold the button for as long as you want to record, and let go when your done. To play the message, just pull the stick on the speaker.

Sleep sound effects
If you like having some background sound effects while sleeping, they are also in the app. On top of the screen we can choose how long we want it to play.

Here’s a lot to choose from, like birds, rain, thunder, animals, water etc.
Time, weather, date, etc.
The main screen on the speaker usually shows the time, but it’s also possible to toggle on or off weather information, temperature, date and some animations. When toggled on, it will switch between the different information pages automatically.
Not all is visible in the app
Like i said before, we can control almost all functions from the phone, but as you can see, it’s not possible to see the time or values on the phone. If you for example use the stopwatch, countdown timer or the noise meter, it will only display the result on the speakers screen.

Downloads from the app
The app is also full of different pixel art, animations and more that can be downloaded and put on the speaker. This is a community of many users who share their own creations, and if you want, you can upload and share your own.
Playing music on the Divoom Ditoo
As we saw earlier, there are two ways of playing music on this speaker. We can put a memory card into the slot on the side here, or we can play by bluetooth from another device.
I connected it to my phone and use Google Music as my source. It’s quite convenient, as we can control the music from the speakers keyboard. To play and pause, we use the golden stick. To switch songs forward or backwards, we use the arrow keys. And as you can see, the song’s title will slide across the screen.

We can also adjust the volume, with the plus and minus keys. If you don’t like controlling these functions from the speaker, it is of course possible to do everything directly from the phone.

Verdict and sound quality
Regarding sound quality, I was positively surprised. The Divoom Ditoo is a compact speaker, but the sound is quite good, and it’s got more bass than I expected. At loud volume I can actually feel the vibration in the table as it’s playing. Vocals sound nice, and there’s no harsh tones from the highs. The power output on the Ditoo is at 10 Watt, and the bass reflex port on the back makes a big difference.

The battery in here, is at 3000 mAh, and should last up to 8 hours. It will of course depend on the volume, the screens brightness, animations and so on.
It’s also very loud, and while watching a YouTube video I found it to be loud enough at around 40% volume. While listening to a bit loud music, I found that around 67% was enough. You can of course go all the way up to a 100%, but it’s very loud. Distortions only get noticeable when playing around the max volume.

It is a mono speaker, so we only have one speaker, and comparing it to a big stereo Bluetooth speaker wouldn’t be fair. For what it is, its surprisingly good and very interesting.
So all in all a very nice looking speaker, and I love the retro pixel design. The sound quality is surprisingly good for such a small speaker, and the working pixel display looks fantastic!
